Sciangai is one of the most recognizable icons of twentieth-century Italian design. Designed in 1973 by Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi for Zanotta, it originated from a simple concept: transforming the movement of the traditional pick-up sticks game into a functional everyday object.
Made of eight solid wood rods opening into a fan-like structure, Sciangai perfectly reflects the playful and intelligent language of Italian design from the 1970s. Closed, it remains minimal and compact; open, it becomes a sculptural presence able to define an entire space. Winner of the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1979, it is now part of major international museum collections.
